Customized Media Relations

Pipeline Media Relations prides itself on providing customized media relations programs that provide a laser-focus on the media outlets that are most important to a client’s communications and business objectives.  Services that support this overall effort include:

Competitive Media Coverage Dashboard and Analysis Report:  It is important that we don’t ignore the ready and aim in “ready, aim, fire” before we start firing away with our media pitching efforts for our client.  The competitive media coverage dashboard will allow a client and Pipeline Media Relations to assess their position in the media among its competitors and to best understand which reporters and outlets are most interested in a client’s targeted messaging.

This competitive media coverage dashboard can be completed in about 3-5 days and focuses on the following components:

  • How many times are your competitors appearing in the media over the past 12 months?
  • Where are your competitors receiving coverage? (i.e., national, trade, online, etc.)
  • What type of messaging is being used in each story?
  • How many press releases have your competitors posted over the past 12 months?
  • What media are currently covering the topics and messages important to a client?

It’s important that the dashboard including the metrics (listed above), also be updated every 6 to 12 months to help a client understand its position within the media landscape.

Customized Monthly Media Relations Program:  The monthly media relations program would be the core component within the overall client media relations campaign and would focus on the “blocking and tackling” of getting the client stories out to various media nationwide.

The core media relations activities for the program would consist of:

  • Conducting meticulous media market research to find every media outlet and contact whose editorial profile matches client product/business and primary customer profile;
  • Composing professional media pitches that get the attention of editors, reporters and producers nationwide;
  • Continually distributing client pitches to the media and providing extensive, ongoing campaign management including: ongoing media follow-ups; media relations contacts, media interviews and securing articles/stories on behalf of client.

Messaging Workshop:  The ½ day messaging workshop helps a client define the story they would like to communicate to its customers, across their entire organization.

Pipeline Media Relations recommends the workshop include a client’s key marketing team and/or company executives responsible for setting its company’s strategic goals and communications objectives.  The workshop will result in a set of key company messages that will be used throughout the organization.

Pitch Brainstorm Session:  A pitch brainstorm session is a great way for a client and Pipeline Media Relations to assess and determine what stories or pitches might resonate best with the targeted and desired media.

The session is typically a ½ day and involves a client’s key marketing team and/or company executives.

Communications and Media Training:  Communications and media training enable a client’s spokespeople to be well prepared to handle media interviews and become better all-round communicators in their day-to-day lives.

The media and communications training typically consists of a ½ day session with up to 4 company spokespeople.  Full-day and/or group training programs are also options.
